《蘭花花》為陝北民歌，此類民歌又稱為信天游，歌詞以豪邁壯闊的情懷描述兒女情長；蘭花花根據其歌詞，應可追溯至明清時代，歌詞以充滿鄉土韻味的口吻道出姣好女子與心中情郎的情愛糾葛，韻味豪氣干雲。此版本由日本作曲家三國浩平改編為靈活編制樂團演奏，可供演奏者任意選擇五聲部與打擊樂器演奏，以新穎的當代管樂團創作手法，為經典的古調增添嶄新的風貌。
' Orchid Flower' is originated from Northern Shaanxi. The local folk song genre is also known as Xintianyou, which often describes the romance between couples with heroic and bold spirit. The original melody can be traced back to Ming and Qing Dynasty according to the text appeared. The text with rough and earthy tone portrayed the complicated love story from the local. The flexible version with 5 parts and percussion instruments is adapted by Japanese composer Kohei Mikuni. The version can be played by various numbers of players and instrumentation.
