《送郎當紅軍》是一首典型的紅軍歌曲，許多農村青年在此曲的號召之下，紛紛響應入伍，歌詞描寫家鄉姑娘歡送情人從軍，營造出同仇敵慨的氣勢，歡欣地嚮往光明的勝利未來。此版本由日本作曲家金山徹改編為靈活編制管樂團演奏，以五個聲部加上打擊樂器，使各種人數、類型之器樂合奏形式，皆能發揮本作品的最佳演奏效果；音樂從盛大而莊嚴的氣氛進入，經過歌詞的鋪陳，來到氣勢磅礡的結尾，結束整首作品。
 
"Join the Red Army" is a typical military song. Young men from all over the country had been encouraged to enlist by the summon of the song. The lyric describe how a girl send her lover to the army and look forward to the ultimate victory. The flexible band version with 5 parts and percussion instruments is arranged by Japanese composer Tohru Kanayama, which can be played by various numbers of players and instrumentation. The music begins with a maestoso introduction, followed by a series of transition until a grandeur ending, symbolizes a total victory.
